Julien is, after all, Gabriel's gardener... Twelve years ago a widow took home an orphaned boy she found on street. The widow, now housekeeper of (not so) great house of Hallenrod, shares responsibility for the boy with her master. The boy, Julien, is growing up helping his step-brother in the garden and Gabriel, the master, teaches him his art. The boy has surprisingly good green thumbs... and surprisingly good nose for demons.
